A mentorship is a relationship between two people where the individual with more experience, knowledge, and connections (the "mentor") passes along what they've learned to a more junior individual (the "mentee").
Waano provides a unique mentorship program for youth aged 14–18. Fourth-year University of Alberta students provide mentorship and promote positive emotional well-being for mentees, equipping them with healthy lifestyle strategies and personal support.
The program centres on a one-to-one mentor-to-mentee relationship that lasts six months, alongside culturally-related workshops (like poetry nights) and recreational activities such as basketball, soccer, karaoke, and board games — all helping mentees build socialization skills, healthy habits, goal-setting, and problem-solving.
